Our bowling coach Allan Donald is thrilled with the addition of Shamar Joseph to the squad and his admiration for the talented West Indian pacer isn’t without a strong reason.

The 25-year-old speedster from Guyana blew away Australia with a game-changing spell of 7/68 at the Gabba in January and is considered one of the rising stars in world cricket.

Recognising his potential, our team at the SA20 2025 auction knew Joseph was the perfect fit for the upcoming season.

"He's a very exciting youngster. I saw him when he won a Test match off the back of his own bowling against Australia, and he was just fantastic. So, to work with him, he's a good kid," Donald said in an interview with MyKhel.

Reflecting on the team’s strategy during the auction, Donald shared the inside story of how Joseph became a key player. "Should we go for Josh Little? So we go for Shamar Joseph? Eventually, it came down to the youngster. For us, it was easy because we needed two overseas fast bowlers,” Donald explained.

The 2025 season will mark the first time for Shamar Joseph in the SA20. He played for the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League earlier this year. Joseph has represented the West Indies in six Tests and five T20Is, picking up 22 and eight wickets in the respective formats.

Donald also expressed his excitement about reuniting with former teammates Lance Klusener and Jonty Rhodes in the coaching staff. “To be part of the Super Giants, and working with Jonty and Lance again, is an incredible feeling. We have a great bond and it’s going to be a big boost for us this season,” the South African bowling legend added.

With Shamar Joseph in the squad and a wealth of experience in the coaching setup, we are geared up for a strong push towards the SA20 2025 season starting on January 9.
