Only one win separates us from our maiden title and the boys will go all out to make the shot count when we face defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape at Newlands in Cape Town this Saturday.
What an emotional roller coaster it has been so far. After finishing the league stage in second place, we faced disappointment against SEC in Qualifier 1. However, Keshav Maharaj and the boys seized the initiative against Joburg Super Kings in Qualifier 2 and won by 69 runs to punch our ticket for the grand finale.
The contest, and the title, may very well be decided by the outcome of the battle between our batters and the SEC quicks. We have two batters in the top five run scorer’s list while three of SEC’s pacers feature in the top wicket taker’s list for SA20 2024.
The big face-off will be between Heinrich Klaasen, currently the second-highest scorer in SA20 2024 with 447 runs in 12 matches, and Ottniel Baartman, who is the top wicket taker this season with 16 scalps from seven outings.
Our top order’s failure to deal against Baartman, Marco Jansen and Daniel Worrall cost us the first qualifier but this time, we will be ready.
As far as our bowling is concerned, Junior Dala’s recent form will be a big boost for us. Despite playing just four matches, Dala is already our top wicket taker for the season with 13 scalps to his name.
Alongside Reece Topley and Maharaj, Dala will lead our three-pronged attack against the Aiden Markram-led SEC.
Durban’s Super Giants vs Sunrisers Eastern Cape head-to-head record
Till date, we have faced SEC five times and won only once.
Last season, SEC got the better of us in Kingsmead while the second game was washed away.
This campaign, we defeated the Sunrisers by 35 runs in Gqeberha but lost our home leg in Durban by five wickets. We met again in the first qualifier at Newlands but SEC came out on top by 51 runs.
