Durban’s Super Giants produced a sensational comeback as they beat Pretoria Capitals by two runs in a thrilling SA20 2025 encounter at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban on Friday, January 10.
Opting to bat first, DSG rode on Kane Williamson’s unbeaten 60 off just 40 balls, along with contributions from Bryce Parsons (47) and Wiaan Mulder (45 not out) to post 209/4 in 20 overs.
In reply, the Capitals were 154/0 in 12 overs before the DSG bowlers pulled off a magnificent comeback to secure a nail-biting victory at home and bag four crucial points.
Parsons, Breetzke light up Kingsmead
Bryce Parsons and Matthew Breetzke got the Super Giants off to a blitzkrieg start. The swashbuckling pair smashed the bowlers to all parts of the ground. Parsons and Breetzke stitched a 67-run opening stand before the latter departed for a 20-ball 33.
Williamson slams scintillating fifty
Following Breetzke’s dismissal, star batter Kane Williamson joined Parsons in the middle. Williamson and Parsons added 18 runs for the second stand before the southpaw departed for 47 off just 28 balls. At the other end, Williamson played some brilliant shots as he later notched up fifty on his SA20 debut.
Mulder’s impressive cameo
With the score reading 117/2 in the 13th over, the Super Giants were in dominant position before the hosts lost wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen in quick succession. All-rounder Wiaan Mulder later walked out to bat at No.5. Mulder and Williamson smashed an unbeaten 91-run partnership off just 39 balls to power DSG to 209/4 in their allotted overs. Mulder’s quick-fire 19-ball 45 was laced with four fours and three sixes.
Challenging Start for the bowlers

DSG bounce back
The Super Giants’ star left-arm wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad ended the opening stand as he claimed the massive wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz. DSG pacer Chris Woakes joined the party as he cleaned up Rilee Rossouw before Ahmad removed Will Jacks.
Capitals’ Senuran Muthusamy was then castled by Woakes while Naveen-ul-Haq dismissed James Neesham.
In the 19th over, captain Keshav Maharaj led from the front to claim the massive wicket of Liam Livingstone to reduce the Capitals to 195/6.
Nail-biting win at Kingsmead
With 14 needed off the last six balls, skipper Maharaj gave the final over to Naveen-ul-Haq. The Afghan pacer kept his nerves as he guided the Super Giants to a memorable win at home.
