Following the second Betway SA20 auction, Durban’s Super Giants have finalised their squad for 2024 with some exciting additions to the team for the tournament kicking off in January.
With eleven players returning to the side that played in the inaugural tournament in 2023, the Super Giants have bolstered their squad with a number of new additions, both local and international.
On the international front, DSG will welcome the mercurial West Indian shot-maker Nicholas Pooran. Pooran, who represents Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League, was the Wild Card pick for DSG for the second instalment of the SA20.
Amongst the international names that have joined DSG for the season, the Sri Lankan duo of Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dilshan Madushanka will call Kingsmead Stadium home for the tournament. Also joining the team, will be the wily Afghan pacer Naveen ul Haq, who had a breakthrough season with the Lucknow Super Giants this season.
Excitingly, Kyle Abbott will be part of the squad in 2024 after withdrawing through injury before the tournament in 2023.
DSG and the Sunrisers Eastern Cape had earlier, in the off-season, announced a swap deal with Jon-Jon Smuts coming up the coast to Durban and Simon Harmer moving to Gqhebera from DSG.
At the auction earlier this week DSG added a number of South African players to their arsenal with a few local Hollywoodbets Dolphins players amongst those additions.
Jason Smith, who has been in good form with the bat for the Dolphins, scoring a century and a half-century in two matches in the CSA One Day Cup, was selected on auction day.
Former SA Under 20 captain and Dolphins all-rounder Bryce Parsons has also been selected by the franchise as their rookie selection for the 2024 competition.
CEO of RPSG Sports Vinod Bisht feels that the franchise has bolstered their squad well and in the right areas for the upcoming season.
“We are very excited with the team we’ve picked," Bisht said. "With a great mix of experienced international superstars and local talent with great potential, our expectations are high for Season 2.
"A big focus for us at the auction was to purchase players who know the Durban conditions and in Smith & Parsons, we were able to achieve that goal.”
