Durban’s Super Giants’ spirited performance went in vain as they lost to Joburg Super Kings by 28 runs in their third SA20 2025 encounter at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban on Tuesday, January 14.
DSG rode on an impressive bowling performance to restrict JSK to 169/7 in their 20 overs. In reply, wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock slammed a scintillating fifty, but it was the Super Kings who came out on top.
Subrayen provides early breakthrough

Subrayen removed du Plessis for 1. Meanwhile, the DSG bowlers continued to bowl in tight lines as JSK scored 45/1 in the powerplay.

Prenelan Subrayen cleaned up Leus du Plooy (38) while captain Keshav Maharaj removed Wihan Lubbe (17) in the 14th over. Later, star pacer Chris Woakes joined the party as he claimed the big wicket of JSK wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow (26).

For the Super Giants, Prenelan Subrayen, Keshav Maharaj and Chris Woakes claimed two wickets each.
Challenging Start for the batters

Klaasen, de Kock stitch crucial partnership
With the score reading 51/4 in 6.5 overs, Heinrich Klaasen joined Quinton de Kock at the crease. The pair played some scintillating shots as they added 48 runs for the fifth wicket. However, the Super Giants later suffered a massive blow as Klaasen fell to Matheesha Pathirana.
QDK’s fifty goes in vain
Despite losing wickets at the other end, Quinton de Kock kept the Super Giants in the game. He scored 55 of 45 balls, laced with five fours and two sixes. The southpaw later fell to Gerald Coetzee.
The Super Giants fought hard till the very end, but later succumbed to a narrow defeat in Durban.
With one win, one loss while another game was washed out, DSG are placed fourth in the SA20 2025 standings with six points from three games.
