Durban’s Super Giants will look to quickly turn things around when they take on the two-time defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape in their fourth match of the SA20 2025 at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban on Friday, January 17.

Despite Quinton de Kock’s valiant half-century, the Super Giants fell short by 28 runs in their run chase against Joburg Super Kings to succumb to their first defeat in the ongoing edition of the SA20.

Led by captain Keshav Maharaj, DSG rode on an impressive all-round bowling performance to restrict JSK to 169/7 in their 20 overs.

For the hosts, Prenelan Subrayen, Chris Woakes and Maharaj bagged two wickets each in the game.

In reply, DSG’s star wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock played a fighting knock of 55 off 45 balls, but it was the Super Kings who later came out on top.

Earlier, the Lance Klusener-coached outfit commenced their SA20 2025 campaign with a thrilling victory over Pretoria Capitals in their own backyard while their second fixture against the same opposition was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain.

With six points from three games, DSG are currently placed fifth in the SA20 2025 standings.

On the other hand, the Aiden Markram-led Sunrisers Eastern Cape have lost all their three matches in the SA20 2025. With three consecutive defeats, the Sunrisers are currently languishing at the bottom of the six-team standings.

Durban’s Super Giants vs Sunrisers Eastern Cape head-to-head record

Durban’s Super Giants and Sunrisers Eastern Cape have faced each other on five occasions in SA20 history so far. While rain played spoilsport in their opening meeting, Durban’s Super Giants secured a 35-run victory against Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the second encounter. However, the Sunrisers have won the last three matches in this head-to-head.
